RACE 1

Worth a Quartet bet taking 2 and 4 as double bankers with a few legs for value. Of course Picken (9) with Moreira aboard must be included. But if it runs in the top four, you’d be lucky if the payout pays for two Chicken Burger Joys. So throw caution to the wind and go a little wild.

RACE 2

Overnight favourite Jing Jing Win (5) can win this- but without our money. A hugely disappointing galloper despite the golden goose reputation when first produced. After some initial ka ching ka ching wins, the galloper has always been backed, but just hasn’t delivered any golden eggs. Still, as Aerosmith once sang, dream on.

We have a side bet in this race. That the inappropriately named galloper Incredible with the KL Man stable will finish last. Apparently, the owner felt Grant van Niekerk, who rode the horse at its debut a few weeks ago, didn’t ride the galloper according to his instructions, thus, the booking this time of Gerald Mosse.

Why some people are allowed to race horses or have trainers remain a mystery. With owners like this who needs trainers? And wouldn’t it be wonderful karma if Grant van Niekerk takes this out on Ambitious Heart?

RACE 4

There are many from the land Down Under who cannot see Latrobe (13) being beaten. Big bets have already been made and many within earshot have been told the news. It’s always been the same about this definitely talented galloper: Talk and hype, various games and transparent politics.

We wish those who have followed all the talk, only the best. But find all the talk to be a tad empty. In Hong Kong, one quickly bins things that go bump in the night. Especially drunk talk in Wanchai bars.

RACE 7

If Beauty Generation wins the Hong Kong Mile and you’ve invested in a Six Up, you’ll lose even if you win.

Call us stupid, but we won’t be at all surprised if Hong Kong’s Horse Of The Year and the World’s Highest Rated Specialist Miler gets beaten this afternoon. Why? Beauty Generation just might have peaked. Might be in need of a facelift. Or something.
