Last season Kathy O’Hara rode 36 winners and, this season she has ridden 45 winners.

This young South African only finished his apprenticeship in January and went on to quickly win 3  Grade One winners at the Champions Day meeting at Turffontein. He has also spent time riding in Melbourn and has now come to Hong Kong!

3. Derek Leung

This Hong Kong is currently the leading local rider with 24 wins under his belt this season. He is probably in line to win the Tony Cruz award.

He is a product of the Hong Kong Apprentice Jockey’s School however, he did his initial training in New Zealand. What makes him more worthy of a place on this list? Well, he won the Asian Young Guns Challenge award in 2010.

4. Kyla Nisbet

Working for her father John Nisbet this Australian jockey has not had an easy time. Having recovered from an epileptic seizure she has only just started to ride again.

She won the apprentice jockey’s premiership at both Canberra and Goulburn. Being only 22 with racing in her blood we are expecting wonderful things from her.

5. Sam Clipperton

The 23-year-old Australian rising star left school at 15 and joined the same stable of Ron Quinton.
